I was upset by an episode of "The Celebrity Apprentice" on Dstv channel 110 lately, where a woman was fired by the Mr. Donald Trump for reasons I could not (and still cannot) fathom. This woman, T-Boz of the famous girl group TLC, had been perfoming with such grace, honesty, professionalism, dedication, and cooperation in the competition. As a result she had won the task from the previous week, for which she was appointed Team Manager. On this particular week of her firing, she was in a group that perfomed well. The group had worked together with no glitches, fights, tensions, or distruction. The Team Manager had excellent skill and experience in the task at hand and did a great job in executing their plan. The team members all put in all their energies, and in the end, this left the Team Manager with a tough if not impossible decision to make. Who to take into the board room for expulsion? This is protocol, that at the end of each task, the team manager must choose two team members with whom to enter the board room to face Mr. Trump. This decision is based on who the team manager feels was the weakest in performing the team task. As all team members were strong, she (the team manger) had no idea who to pick, and at the attempt of making life easier for the team member, as well as showing her support for her team manager, TBoz decided that she would selflessly volunteer to accompany her team manager to the board room.  This was a sign of the togetherness of women, standing by each other, supporting each other, making efforts to eleviate stress and burden from one another. What TBoz did was what we have been longing to see in businss, amongst women. Then, what do you know! TBoz got fired! The reasons for her expulsion as given by Mr. Trump, who decides who should get fired or not, were that TBoz should not have volunteered to accompany her manager into the boardroom because, as he saw it, she was volunteering for execution or expulsion. In other words, as self-less and supportive she was for her fellow "sister", in business this was seen as a weakness. Why do we keep hearing the message that in order to make it in business one must be selfish, blunt, mean, destructively competitive, and a back-stabber? When it should be that one needs to have the values of integrity, honesty, values, as well as a give-back attitude, as advocated by Space to Say? Some one please show me the light!
